My passion for wine has lead me into the vast world of Cigars and I’m excited to announce that I will be writing a new column on my blog… a search for my favorite cigar!
Over the past year I’ve experienced a couple cigars that really highten my wine tasting experience and some that just fall short. A couple of my friends and I like to gather around the fire and smoke various cigars to see which brands have the best draw, flavor and aroma. Several people tell me that whiskey is the only way to enjoy a fine cigar but I’m conviced that certain sweeter wines can do just the same.
I’m very excited to begin this journey but I need your help. There are literally too many cigars in the market and I’m at a loss of where to start. Sometimes I really enjoy the light wraps but sometimes I also enjoy the dark wraps. I would really appreciate it if my readers could leave a comment below and suggest some cigars for me to try so I can get this journey started.
Cheers and Thank You!
If I’m pairing a wine with cigars, it’s usually a port. Either Tawny or Ruby Port, depends on my mood. Some of my favorite boutique brands are Illusione, Berger & Argenti, La Caridad Del Cobre and Pride. Urbano, a new brand that has just arrived has a Connecticut wrapper that while mild as most Connecticut wrappers are, has a nice little kick to it. Some other more established brands that I enjoy are Arturo Fuente’s Cuban Belicoso, J.C. Newman’s Cuesta Rey Centro Fino Sungrown or Oliva’s “G” blend.
Tom, thank you for your recommendations. I\’ve had the Oliva Connecticut Reserve recently and I absolutely loved it. I can\’t wait to try the cigars on this list. Cheers and thanks again.
